Linebacker and special teams standout Blake Costanzo rejoins 49ers on one-year contract

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Linebacker and special teams standout Blake Costanzo has rejoined the San Francisco 49ers, 2 ½ years after leaving the organization to play for the Chicago Bears.

Costanzo’s agent, David Canter, announced Tuesday that the free agent had signed with a post on Twitter and the 49ers later said Costanzo was back on a one-year contract.

The 30-year-old Costanzo played 16 games for Chicago last season and finished with nine tackles and a forced fumble while also contributing on special teams. San Francisco will count on the depth at linebacker that Costanzo helps provide given All-Pro NaVorro Bowman is recovering from a left knee injury sustained in the NFC championship game. He tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments.

Costanzo was expected to participate in Tuesday’s organized team activity.
